Since most of the goo had oozed out of my knock sensor, and WE ALL WONDER, whats inside that thing, here is the anatomy of the 1g knock sensor.
It looks like two thin copper washers, with a piezoelectric element (???) sandwiched in between. There is a positive and a negative, it would appear, and the circle tube in the middle is kind of like a paper towel roll when you put it up to your ear, but it seems to be plastic and is somewhat flexible. It may still be stuck to the center of the fitting with a tiny amount of goo that my pick wouldn't pull out without tearing it up beyond recognition. Threads for the screw felt like they were in that tube but may have just been in the bottom of the fitting.
I put that sucker in my oven and baked her at 500* so we could ALL discover what the heck is inside. I don't know what the goo is made up of, but it is a plastic/rubber substance that softens with heat. I dug out all the remaining goo and took these pictures of the "guts" so you don't have to wonder anymore, WHAT is inside that mysterious part???
Hope you Enjoy!
