hey guys,
i tried digging around to see if i could find the answer before posting but no luck.

so long story short anytime i go to fill the car up it reeks of gasoline. i can park the car and it will still stink until its down to about 3/4 tank. if i fill it up to only 3/4 or less i dont have this issue at all. . i dont see any actual fuel anywhere. ive replaced the big o ring around the hangar, welded a 6an bung on the send line and it doesnt leak, ive replaced the white plastic surround that holds it down, and when i fill up it doesnt "click" off early or at all during the fill up. so i dont think its related to the filler neck. anyone have similar issues or the exact same?

thanks for your help in advance!!

Have you looked at the filler neck? Just because it doesn't click off early doesnt mean you don't have a leak. If it reeks that bad a leak should be obvious.

i personally think it has something to do with the hangar itself, whether its the electrical port or the lines coming out of it. i had the same hangar and AN lines in my old shell and would do the same thing. ive also done the 1/8 siphon mod too

It will be a pin hole in the filler neck, or on top of the tank the rubber hose would of split. A gasket on the pump hanger could of leaked but really you just need to get down and sniff everything and possibly drop the tank to check the top of the hoses on top

My vote is behind the tank where the rubber goes to the filler neck by the frame. Either it’s rusted there where the little shield is bolted over it or the rubber had split between the end of the filler neck and tank connection.

I had a similar issue where I wouldn’t smell fuel but with a fuel tank and parked on a nose uphill incline it would drip from the area I specified above.

Keep us posted

it definitely wont be rust, this car is a west coast car thats never seen salt. its by far one of the cleanest dsms ive seen. i would def be leaning more towards a faulty evap line or fuel line of some sort ( rubber cracking failure related )

i will further diag here soon once i finish up a couple more things on the car and take it for a drive to fill it up etc
